Knowledge Unlatched makes Open Access open for trade partners

Three trade partners will promote the next collection of books in KU Select 2016.

Knowledge Unlatched (KU) is partnering with a number of sales agents specialising in library sales to better promote its Open Access offering to libraries.

Starting in September, countries including Austria, Germany, Italy, Israel, Russia, Singapore, Switzerland, The Netherlands and Turkey will be covered by three different partners: Schweitzer, Karger Libri and Casalini Libri will join KU’s long-standing partner LYRASIS and include information on Knowledge Unlatched into their outreach towards librarians in their core markets.

“We are pleased that reputable and experienced trade partners from around the world are supporting the Knowledge Unlatched team to promote Open Access for Humanities and Social Sciences monographs,” says Sven Fund, Managing Director of Knowledge Unlatched.

“KU unites the two approaches of crowd-funding and Open Access in a very smart way,” says Jörg Pieper, Manager at Schweitzer. “We are very glad that Knowledge Unlatched is an opportunity for us to join in with these innovative approaches.”

Knowledge Unlatched will start its next pledging period in September and aims at unlatching 350 monographs in this step, both from the front list and the backlist. Information on the upcoming collections will be available at, and libraries can register at
